CBA-DFID Broadcast Media Scheme
The CBA-DFID Broadcast Media Scheme was established in 2001 and is funded by DFID (the UK Government Department for International Development). The objective of the scheme is to improve UK understanding and awareness of the developing world via the mainstream broadcast media.
CBA report says UK 'international' news is limited
International television news in the UK focuses on a very limited number of stories and countries, according to a new research report published by the CBA.

The scheme operates two separate funds:
CBA-DFID Programme Development Fund
...is an ideas specific initiative.
The objectives of the CBA-DFID Programme Development Fund are:
- To support established television/radio producers wishing to produce programmes, for UK mainstream transmission, that promote better understanding of the developing world.
- Grants are intended to help cover the costs of research, development, pilot filming and the procurement of filming rights and access.
- To improve the quality and quantity of viable programme proposals in this area of output, likely to interest UK broadcasters and commissioning editors.
The Fund enables established UK based television/radio producers to research programme ideas to be made in and about developing countries and development issues.
Programme proposals can be of any genre and programme makers are encouraged to think laterally and be innovative.
Funds of up to £10,000 are available (maximum 80% of development budget).

CBA-DFID Travel Bursary Fund
...is a person specific initiative.
The objectives of the Travel Bursary Fund are:
- To enable UK based television producers and multi-media journalists to extend their knowledge and understanding of the developing world by working for up to three months in a Commonwealth developing country or countries.
- To create opportunities for UK based television producers and multi-media journalists to expand their range of contacts and to develop programme/story ideas in a Commonwealth developing country or countries.
- To encourage UK based television producers and multi-media journalists to contribute to improving the quality and quantity of output about the developing world on UK television.
