A protest camp in London's Parliament Square has been cleared by police. Campaigners set up the "Democracy Village" in May 2010 outside the Houses of Parliament, where they have protested against a variety of issues including the war in Afghanistan. The removal comes after the police reform and social responsibility bill came into force, preventing encampments in certain locations around Westminster.

UWI Receives BBC Caribbean Archives

The material, an endowment from the BBC World Service to the UWI, for research and study purposes, captures the day-to-day political, economic and other pan Caribbean developments of more than two decades up to the closure of the BBC Caribbean Service in March 2011.
Debbie Ransome, former head of BBC Caribbean, in making the presentation to UWI Vice Chancellor, Prof. E. Nigel Harris, at a ceremony at the UWI Mona Library, declared, "this marks the end of an era for the premium pan-Caribbean news and current affairs broadcasting provided by the BBC for and about the Caribbean region".
Prof. Harris thanked the BBC for the over 3000 hours of recordings and corresponding scripts and commended the small archiving team which worked under Ms. Ransome. He described the archives as "an invaluable resource not just for scholars, but for Caribbean people as a whole."
