Radio Pakistan launches first English channel, Planet FM-94
Pakistan’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira said on 4 November that the nation was facing the biggest challenge of fighting terrorism and it was the duty of the Radio Pakistan to educate the people on the threat besides providing entertainment.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Radio Pakistan's first English channel, Planet FM-94, in Islamabad at Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Headquarters. He praised Radio Pakistan and said it is carrying out its mission in a very responsible manner. He said that the present government believes in free media and free atmosphere but hoped that media would act with responsibility.
Director-General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi briefed the minister about programme contents of the new channel. The FM-94 would have 24-hour transmission, and besides English it will broadcast music in Chinese, Russian, Spanish and other languages which would constitute eight per cent of its contents. It would also put on air news headlines after every three hours besides broadcasting health and educational programmes.
