Travel Attachment Bursaries 2011
In partnership with the Commonwealth Foundation and the Elizabeth R Broadcasting Fund, the CBA has awarded this year’s Travel Bursaries to the following:

Bariki Mary Arerepade
Producer, Voice of Nigeria, NigeriaBariki will visit Cameroon Radio TV for exchange of ideas relevant to broadcasting in French. Bariki produces programmes in French for VON. She would like to visit Cameroon to produce inserts for her programmes on cultural, African music, African leaders, a programme which highlights female developments and achievements, food and fashion – these would all be themes around Cameroon cultural and its people.
"I am happy and honored to be a recipient of the CBA travel bursary. One of the greatest thrills of my life is interacting with people of other cultures, hearing their stories, living their way of life, etc. This travel bursary will give me the opportunity to tell their story to the world thereby, promoting world peace and cultural exchange."

Varuna Sanjaya Dharmaratna
Deputy Director General - Finance Manager, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri LankaVaruna will study project management and cost management of the transformation from Analogue to Digital in Singapore. Sri Lanka will have completed switchover from Analogue to Digital by 2017, however the first phase starts in 2011. Varuna believes that the success of this switchover will be determined on meeting the costs and how this revenue can be raised as well as managed.
"It was truly an amazing moment to me when I was informed that I have been selected for the award of a CBA Travel Bursary for 2011!!! I consider this award as an honor to my beloved motherland and the institution that I work for. The media in a country always acts as a catalyst for rapid economic development. Sri Lanka is to transform into complete digital platform by switching off the analogue transmission in 2017. This award will assist me to study the analogue to digital metamorphosis from cost and project management perspectives that would benefit my institution and the society at large."

Nkurunziza Innocent
Technical Director, ORINFOR, RwandaNkurunziza would like to understand the digital migration process and how best to apply this to his organisation. This will enhance his knowledge, and give him the opportunity to share and exchange experience with other broadcasters especially SABC in South Africa who are operating the DTV new technology in broadcasting.
"I'd like to thank CBA for selecting my name within thousands applications and my grateful thanks to the CBA for its strong support to me and my company ORINFOR I hope to use this fund to enhance my knowledge, share and exchange experience with other broadcasters especially SABC from South Africa operating the DTV new technology in broadcasting industry. The CBA travel bursary will serve as a great boost of confidence to ORINFOR in the digital transition system as the expertise I will build up will bring strong inputs to our digital migration process."

John Kwame Kuadzi
Assistant Head of Design, GBC, GhanaJohn will travel to Nigeria to understudy the latest multimedia graphics and technologies of Nigeria – one of the leading broadcasting stations in the sub region- Channels TV. GBC is gradually migrating to digital and John will conduct an intensive study into how multimedia is used in news, documentaries and disasters.
"This has come at the right time when Ghana Broadcasting Corporation is migrating from analog to fully digital, terrestrial/satellite operations. It is the most catalytic Award to the GBC in recent times….because of the timing, the mutuality of benefits to Ghana/Nigeria as well as the sub-region as a whole. I cannot hide my excitement. I am extremely grateful to you all. GBC and I join hands to say, AYEKOOOOOO!!!"

Anthonia Ike Mbanefo
Producer, Radio Nigeria, NigeriaAnthonia has researched that many Nigerians travel to Ghana for medical services. Anthonia would like to explore why Nigerians trust the Ghanaian health system more than their own. She hopes that the programme she produces will help to inform and educate Nigerians on how to better their own health service.
"I receive with great excitement the news that I am one of the selected few awarded the Bursary. I am further excited that my dream of doing an in-depth comparison on the health of Ghana and Nigeria to highlight why Nigerian trust the system in Ghana and go there for their health care needs as a way of highlighting what needs to be done to improve the system in Nigeria has materialized. I am most grateful to God for this award and pledge to comply with all the expectation of the award."

Nwachukwu Chinweoke
Engineer/Broadcast System Engineer, Federal Radio Corporation, NigeriaNwachukwu will travel to South Africa to observe how digital transmission is being implemented and acquire skills in modern digital broadcasting technology, best practice and methods suitable for FRCN, Nigeria.
"Many thanks to CBA, Commonwealth Foundation and ER Fund for their immense support towards development and technological advancement of its member countries and organisation. I feel very delighted for this award and hope to judiciously utilize it to achieve and actualize its utmost goal and objective. it would go a long way to enhance my skill and knowledge."
