Sport in Development Media Training
This workshop is organised by the CBA in partnership with The Commonwealth Secretariat, The Commonwealth Foundation and is supported & hosted by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
Journalists from member organisations of the CBA, who are passionate and have demonstrated an interest in development through sports in their job are invited to apply to attend a Sport in development workshop which will take place at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in New Delhi , India from the 27th Sept– 3rd October 2010.
Thank you to all applicants for their entries, we have had an overwhelming response to the workshop and are pleased to inform the following that have been selected to attend the workshop based on the workshop criteria and their experience, knowledge and interest in sports development.
The following participants have been selected to attend the workshop from outside India:
- Elias Lungu - Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation
- Mellissa Farley - Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation
- Hafsy Abdulla - MNBC, Maldives
- Katrina Gowases - Namibia Broadcasting Corporation
- Stuma Othieno Idris - Nation Media Group, Kenya
- Olugbenga Isola Osindele - Gateway Radio, Nigeria.
During the workshop, participants will:
- To increase awareness of the potential and limitations of sport as an agent of social change
- To raise awareness of the link between sports and development, paying particular attention to the MDGs
- To develop story mapping techniques that explore the off the pitch dimensions of sports stories
- To increase awareness of ethical standards in sports especially with regard to doping
The workshop will also cover a range of mechanisms, standards and tools that can be used to encourage development though sports. It will also look at the role of media in social change. The workshop will also provide a platform to share practical experiences and also produce a guide to reporting on development through sports. Journalists selected for the workshop will be required to produce stories at the end of the workshop.
Places on this workshop are limited and MUST be endorsed by your manager and are only open to CBA member organisation staff. Only successful applicants will be notified. Airfare and accommodation will be paid for successful applicants.
